Ironopolis
Middlesbrough's mighty industrial past has been captured in a powerful poem created by North East poet Ian Horn. His evocative verse entitled Ironopolis refers to the town's global nickname at the height of its industrial power.
The winning poem will be transformed into a nine metre wide iron sculpture that will encircle the base of a tree at RiversideOne, Middlehaven. It marks the start of the £15 million public realm works at Middlehaven, passionately heralding Middlesbrough's proud past and exciting future.

Ironopolis - Ian Horn
Where alchemists
Were born
Below Cleveland's hills
A giant blue dragonfly
Across the Tees
Reminds us every night
We built the world,
Every metropolis
Came from
Ironopolis
